Legislative
Initiatives
In this day and time, it is
absolutely necessary for those in business to be politically active in all levels of
government. One of the principal objectives of the association is to work closely with the
Oklahoma Legislature to influence legislation and regulations under consideration. As
industries become more regulated, there must be representation of the business and free
enterprise viewpoint. This representation provides to the association members through the Governmental
Affairs Committee. This committee keeps the association membership up to date on
important Oklahoma political issues by tracking and reviewing Legislative Updates,
Regulatory Affairs, Proposed Laws, and Legislative Bulletins.
Along with tracking and reviewing
legislative issues, this committee is involved with the area of "political
action." This function will focus on ways to raise funds and make campaign
contributions to those seeking election or re-election to a political office of the State
of Oklahoma, with out regard to political affiliation, who are believed to be deserving of
such support. Such funds will be used for this purpose and may also be used to support or
oppose the passage of any measure bill, or law, submitted for passage by the people of the
State of Oklahoma, and to make contributions for other worthwhile political purposes and
activities. No funds shall be contributed to, or used, to support or oppose candidates for
federal office. These contributions/funds are often the first step in establishing a
relationship with legislators who understand our industries needs.
In addition, two areas of specific
interest for the Governmental Affairs Committee will be environmental and safety.
For the aggregates industry, these two areas are always concerns due to their ever
changing and evolving nature.
Education
Education is a primary goal of the
Oklahoma Aggregates Association. OKAA will strive to keep the association membership
updated and informed on current issues by holding seminars and workshops targeting the
issues in todays ever changing world.
Promotion
OKAAs goal is to have a close
working relationship with allied industries of many different kinds. OKAAs
membership includes crushed stone producers, sand producers, gravel producers, and allied
industries and companies. OKAA is committed to promote the products of its members as well
as its allied members.
Annual Meeting
OKAAs goal is to hold an
annual meeting in different areas of Oklahoma and the United States. This is the most
important meeting of the year. New directors and officers are elected and it is the most
concentrated effort by the association for the members to come together as a whole. This
is an ideal time to make business contacts.
